Architecture

There is only one moment when you can link fashion and architecture together and that is design a dress inspired from architecture. The Marchesa fall 2008 collection is a tribute to Queen Elizabeth 1 and every dress in the collection are inspired by temples and buildings. The color use of this collection is mainly black, white and red which match with the colors of temples and buildings. The brand “Marchesa” is established by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig Marchesa and its well known for the modern aesthetic of putting signature draping and layers of textiles together. Take this black dress as an example. Designer use different elements from the building like the color and textile and put them into the dress. As we can see, the surface of the building is smoother than normal buildings. Designers use a smooth textile such as silk or satin as the textile for the dress. The color of the textile from the dress is also in black, which makes more sense as the building is in the color of black as well and bring the subtle feeling out of it. On the other hand, the most significant characteristic from the building is its convolute stairs outside the building. Designers made some layers of the bottom of the dress to bring out the whirling feeling. Designers took out the significant elements from the building and display them on a dress. They emphasize on the elegant feeling of architecture and combining signature exclusive textiles into the dresses. To see the whole collection of the design, press here.
